working hard for the money

Fair is just around the corner... and that means it's get down to business and make sure your prepared. Our biggest concern is making sure the pigs make weight so they can be sold for the going price. Katie is going every day to every other day to make sure they have food, takes them treats and has started mixing their grain with whole milk to add some extra calories. Kyle is being the nice brother and helping out. We unloaded ten - 50 pound bags of food that day, that should get them through!
I know it looks like they are big but according to our measurements and some formula they are a little on the small side still.
Enjoying their mud bath! Even pigs needs a few pleasures :)

Bob had to dig out Katie's shoe in the mud. It got stuck when she was chasing them around trying to get the measuring tape around the middle of the pig. Pretty sure those shoes will be in the trash in another week or two. Actually I'm sure of it.

Dark Horse

Summer fun is coming to an end, but before it's officially over (I consider summer over when school starts) we went to the Nickelback concert at the Gorge. As you can see in the pictures the Gorge is a big outdoor amphitheatre, there is no reserved seating. It's first come, first serve, reserving your spot with blankets. There were about 22,000 people there (I'm pretty sure about 21,900 were consuming some sort of substance haha.) We enjoyed ourselves sober however! Katie and Rodger showing their t-shirts (that only cost $255 dollars for t-shirts for everyone and one poster that ended up getting stepped on by the very obnoxious people behind us.
Kyle and Vanessa waiting for the concert to start.

Bob enjoying his $4 cup of water (no ice) and bag of kettle corn.

Before Nickelback played there was 3 other bands that opened for them: Saving Abel, Papa Roach and Hinder. As you can see the setting is gorgeous. It was in the high 80's and by the time Nickelback played is was dark and had cooled off but was perfect, no coats needed. We got home about 1:30am. Let's just say we drug ourselves out of bed Sunday AM but we all took a nap Sunday afternoon to catch up!
What did you do to enjoy the last week-end before school starts? (I know some of you have started)
P.S. Dark Horse is the name of their latest album and the name of their concer tour. I am a fan of their older stuff!

Goodbye Odie

Odie is now at his new home. (sniff, sniff, little tear). He was such a sweet little guy and we had fun with him the last 6 1/2 weeks but his new family is super excited to get him and so I have to be happy for them. I couldn't go with Bob to take him there however. Part of me wanted to so I could see the excitement in their little kid's eyes but I was a little too teary eyed so I said good-bye at our house and off he went. Sigh. It is kind of quiet at our house now. Kyle and Katie left yesterday to spend a couple days with Kinley before the wedding. This will actually be my life in a couple years. Better not go there right now! Don't worry, be happy right?!

Mmmmm!

it's Capivara for dinner for Brian! Yup for dinner last night he ate the world's largest rodent, a river rat that's name is Capivara. It is found in Central America, really! They grow to be about 4 feet long and weigh about a 100 pounds. He didn't say whether he liked it or not, just that he ate it. Kind of makes me not want dinner tonight! They're huge!
